A data center that heats the town

On the approx. 21-hectare site of a former synthetic-fibre plant in Bad Hersfeld, LIVOS Energies is planning an AI data center under the “powered building” model. The first stage uses the plant’s existing 110 kV connection, without waiting for grid expansion.

Waste heat of up to 14.3 MW at 55 °C is prepared in the design; talks with the municipal utility are under way. On-site photovoltaics and battery storage complement the supply.

Technology
  • Staged grid connection: 12 MW, 20 MW, 40 MW
  • 16 enclosures of 1.6 MW, approx. 192 racks
  • PUE 1.119, WUE 0.020 l/kWh; adiabatic cooling only above 25 °C
  • PV 3.9 MWp and battery storage 4 MW / 10 MWh
  • Rail siding for heavy loads, A 4 motorway 0.5 km away
Timeline
  • Permit targeted: Q4 2027
  • First power: approx. 2028
